Sharon Kay Simpson

Sharon K. Simpson, 76, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022. Sharon was born on June 13, 1945 in Chanute, KS. She later met and married her soul mate, Tom, and together, they raised two children and relocated many times due to her husband’s military career. For the last 20 years, Sharon has resided in Tallahassee, and has thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends, especially her church-family at Gospel Light Baptist Church. Sharon loved to evoke laughter from those around her with her quick wit and infectious sense of humor. She often extended a helping hand to her neighbors, whether they needed a ride, a meal or simply a new friend, and she loved having lunch or shopping with the various friends she made at her apartment complex over the years. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. She could often be found in the bleachers of various local baseball diamonds, watching her great-grandson play ball. Sharon enjoyed traveling with her family especially for big family outings. She frequented Kansas, Tennessee, and South Florida to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the 90’s, Sharon and her husband, Tom took pride in a car restoration project they completed together. On weekends, they would attend car shows where they entered the ‘65 Oldsmobile 442 they restored and often came away with awards. Sharon’s favorite of the car shows was always the Turkey Trot. Between the loud exhaust and squealing tires, she couldn’t get enough, and was known for egging on the other drivers at the shows to do burnouts. Those who knew her will certainly miss her spunk and desire to just have fun. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Vera Splane, her brother, Merlin “Bubby” Splane, her husband, Thomas E. Simpson, Sr., and son-in-law, John W. Coiner. Sharon leaves behind two children, Brenda Coiner (Laurie Flynn), of Tallahassee and Thomas E. “Gene” Simpson, Jr., of North Port, FL. Grandchildren, Addie Tripp (Robert), of Wichita, KS; Briana House (Josh), of Leon, KS; Kayte Coiner (Bernard “BJ” Lizotte), of Tallahassee; Thomas Coiner (Caitlyn), of Chattanooga, TN; Aura Garrido (Joel), Willie Garrido, and Jimmie Simpson, of Bradenton, FL. As well as numerous great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Sharon’s dear friend and neighbor, Diane Chosen, who offered so much care and compassion to Sharon over the past few months, as well as Evelyn Horn, who was always so willing to assist Sharon in any way she could. Services will be held at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Tallahassee on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Her family will be receiving visitors thirty minutes prior to the service.
