Theresa Mae Edwards Rakes

Theresa Mae Edwards Rakes departed this life on January 29, 2017 in Tallahassee Florida. She has passed through the veil into eternity to be with our Heavenly Father and family members wait to embrace her on the other side. Theresa loved her hometown of Lebanon, Kentucky. She was born on Bradfordsville Highway in Marion County, Kentucky in 1942. Her childhood years were full of family and great memories. She spent many years as a stay at home mother caring for her children. Later in life she worked as a custodian and took great pride in any job she took on. She has been a long time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Those who have preceded her in death include her father, Tolbert Holbert Edwards and mother, Bessie Cecelia Alford Edwards of Lebanon, Kentucky; her paternal grandparents Samuel Walker Edwards and Nancy Jane Beard Wheeler Edwards of Liberty County, Kentucky. Her maternal grandparents are George Willie Alford and Mary Lillie Williams Alford of Lebanon, Kentucky. Siblings preceded her in death include James Edward (Ruby) Edwards of Kokomo, Indiana; Sarah Elizabeth (Earl) Napier of Lebanon; Mary Catherine (George) Roberts; Thomas Lee Edwards of Lebanon; and Margaret Ann (Ronnie) Shofner of Elizabethtown, Ky. Her loss included the death of her step-daughter Sindy Lou Rakes Hoffman of Louisville, Ky.; who she lovingly raised as her own from a small child. Her greatest sorrow was the untimely passing of her beloved youngest son, David Scott Rakes of Lexington, Ky. Surviving family members include her daughter Donna Salyers of Tallahassee, Florida; a son Joseph Mark Rakes of Lexington, Ky.; a much loved daughter-in-law Teresa Rakes of Lexington, Ky., five grandchildren: Keith Hoffman of Louisville, Ky.; James, Benjamin, Oscar, and Hannah Salyers of Tallahassee, FL. She also leaves behind one grandson; Mikhail Salyers of Silver Creek, New York. Her siblings include Joseph Robert (Jane) Edwards of Frankfort, Ky., Charles Willie (Gertrude) Edwards, Joseph Bernard (Henreitta) Edwards, Rosie (Robert) Sanders, Ruth (Wilbur) Davis and Linda(Joe) Abell all of Lebanon, Kentucky. Family visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday February 3rd, 2017 at Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon, Ky. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. that day. On Saturday, February 4th 2017, a general viewing will begin at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 205 Old Springfield Road in Lebanon. Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be immediately after the service in Ryder cemetery.
